Seasonal Car Maintenance in Hillsboro, KS
The short answer
Seasonal car maintenance means a few simple checks at the right time of year, and they prevent most of the breakdowns we see, because Kansas weather does not do anything halfway.
You know the moment: the first January morning at six below, the truck groans over twice, and you are suddenly late for everything. Spring potholes, August heat and harvest dust each wear on a vehicle in their own way too. This guide walks you through the year in plain English, and when it is time for a check, bring it in, or we will come and get it.

Winter is hardest on your battery. Cold weather leaves it with less power just when the engine needs more to start, so have it tested before the first freeze. Check that your antifreeze is mixed properly so it will not freeze, look at your tire tread and pressure, and replace worn wiper blades. If you have a diesel or park outside, a block heater makes those frozen mornings much kinder to the engine.
Spring and summer are about potholes and heat. Potholes appear as the frost comes out of the ground, and they are hard on tires and steering, so if the car pulls to one side or the steering wheel is off center, have the alignment checked. Spring is also the time to test the A/C, before you actually need it. In summer, keep the cooling system healthy and watch your tire pressure, which rises as the pavement gets hotter.
Fall is the season to get ready for winter, and harvest gets its own check. Make sure every light works, because the days get short quickly, and check that the heater and defroster do their jobs. During wheat harvest in June and July and fall harvest in September and October, trucks and pickups work long days in heat and dust. Air filters clog, radiators fill with chaff and cooling systems work overtime, so a quick check before harvest starts is far cheaper than a breakdown in the middle of it.

What each Kansas season does to your car
- Winter cold, which saps battery power and thickens fluids
- Spring frost coming out of the ground, which leaves potholes that knock out alignments
- August heat, which pushes the cooling system and A/C to their limits
- Harvest dust and chaff, which clog air filters and radiators
- Short fall days, which show up every dead bulb on the way home

Seasonal car maintenance questions we hear every week
When should I get my car ready for winter?
Early fall is the best time, before the first hard freeze arrives. That gives you time to replace a weak battery or worn tires on your own schedule, instead of on the side of the road with your breath fogging up the windows. A quick battery test takes only a few minutes, and it is the single most useful thing to do before the cold.
Do I really need to check my A/C in the spring?
It is a good habit, because A/C problems tend to show up on the first truly hot day, when everyone else is calling too. Checking it in spring means it is ready when summer arrives. If it already blows cool rather than cold, text us and we will find a time to take a look.
Do you work on farm trucks before harvest?
We do, and we are happy to look over work trucks and pickups before harvest starts. We serve drivers across Marion, Harvey, McPherson, Chase and Lyon Counties, and our pickup and delivery means nobody has to leave the field to drop a truck off. Call or text us and we will find a time that works around your season.
