Noise & Vibration Diagnosis in Hillsboro, KS
The short answer
If your vehicle is making a sound it did not make last month, it is worth having it checked, because a noise is almost always cheaper to fix early.
You know your vehicle, even if nobody else in the family believes you. Maybe it is a hum on the washboard gravel road home that gets louder every week, or a shake in the wheel at highway speed on I-135 that was not there in the spring. We road test it, find it and tell you what it is in Hillsboro, so bring it in, or we will come and get it.
Call or text (620) 416-0008. Describe the noise. We'll do the rest.
We answer texts the same day we get them.

Text us which onesWhat noise and vibration diagnosis at Moxie actually looks like
We take the noise seriously. A lot of people have been told by somebody that a noise is nothing, and then watched it turn into a repair that was expensive and avoidable.
We will tell you honestly when a noise is normal. We would much rather drive your vehicle and say that what you hear is normal for that model than have you worry about it for another six months.
We find it at the humming stage, not the grinding stage. That is the difference between a bearing and a bearing plus a hub plus a wheel.

What makes vehicles noisy around here
- Worn brake pads or a warped rotor
- A failing wheel bearing, which typically hums and changes pitch when you turn
- Tires that are worn unevenly, cupped or out of balance, which washboard gravel roads speed along
- Worn suspension joints, bushings or sway bar links after years of potholes and rough county roads
- A failing CV joint, which usually clicks on a tight turn
- Exhaust parts that have come loose or rusted through after salty winters
- A belt, pulley or tensioner on its way out
How we diagnose noise & vibration diagnosis in Hillsboro
- We ask you when it happens, because the conditions narrow it enormously. A noise only under braking and a noise only at 60 mph are different problems.
- We drive the vehicle with you where we can, so you can point at the noise when it happens rather than trying to describe it afterwards.
- We reproduce it on our own road test, because a noise nobody at the shop has heard is a noise nobody at the shop can fix.
- We isolate it on a lift, loading and unloading joints and spinning hubs by hand to feel for roughness.
- We tell you what we found and what it will take, before doing any work.

Noise and vibration questions we hear every week
I cannot describe the noise. Is that a problem?
It is not a problem at all, and most people cannot describe one. Tell us when it happens instead of what it sounds like. Speed, braking, turning, cold or warm, and whether it is getting worse all tell us far more than words like clunk or whirr. You can even text us a short video with the sound on.
It stopped doing it. Should I still bring it in?
It is usually still worth a look if it stopped on its own. Noises that come and go often depend on temperature or load, and something that goes quiet has not necessarily gone away. A quick check now is a cheap conversation compared with the repair it could turn into later.
Can you tell me over the phone?
We can often narrow it down on the phone and tell you whether it sounds urgent, and we are happy to do that. What we will not do is quote you a repair from a description, because too many different things make a similar noise and you would be paying for a guess.
