Diesel Maintenance in Hillsboro, KS

The short answer

Diesel maintenance is the regular oil, filter and fluid service that keeps your truck's fuel system, turbo and emissions parts healthy, and it is the cheapest way to avoid an expensive repair.

Diesels are tough, but they are fussy about clean fuel, clean oil and clean air. A truck that spends harvest idling at the edge of a wheat field, or runs the gravel roads around Marion County in a cloud of dust, needs service more often than the easy-driving schedule suggests. Bring it in, or we will come and get it.

What diesel maintenance at Moxie actually looks like

  1. We service the truck for how you actually use it. Many manufacturers publish a normal schedule and a severe one, and towing, dust, idling and short trips usually count as severe. Your owner's manual has the exact intervals, and we will go through them with you.

  2. We are fussy about fuel. Diesel injectors and fuel pumps are built to very tight tolerances, and water or dirt in the fuel is one of the most common reasons they fail early. A fuel filter costs a small fraction of what an injector does.

  3. We look the whole truck over while it is here. We tell you about anything worth watching, and nothing beyond the service is done until you approve it.

  4. We keep work trucks on schedule. For businesses running two or more trucks, Moxie Fleet Priority handles the reminders and sends one monthly invoice.

Diesel maintenance questions we hear every week

How often should a diesel truck have its oil changed?

It depends on the engine and how hard the truck works. Many diesel pickups have an oil life monitor, and many manufacturers recommend shorter intervals for towing, dust and long idling. Your owner's manual has the exact numbers. Tell us how the truck is used and we will help you settle on a schedule that fits.

How often should I change my diesel fuel filters?

Your owner's manual gives the interval for your truck, and it is often shorter than people expect. Change them sooner if you buy fuel from a lot of different places or if the water-in-fuel light has come on. Fuel filters are cheap insurance for injectors and a fuel pump that are anything but cheap.

What should I do if the water-in-fuel light comes on?

Get the water separator drained soon, ideally the same day. Water in diesel fuel is hard on injectors and the fuel pump, and in winter it can freeze and stop the truck. Some trucks have a drain valve you can use yourself, and your manual shows where. If you would rather not, call or text us and we will take care of it.
