Power Stroke Repair in Hillsboro, KS

The short answer

Power Stroke repair is the diagnosis and repair of the Ford diesel engine that sits in Super Duty pickups like the F-250 and F-350, and we do it here in Hillsboro.

These trucks pull stock trailers, haul hay and carry a crew to the job site. So when one starts smoking halfway through a load of round bales on a gravel road outside Peabody, the whole day stops with it. We find the real fault first, so you are not paying for parts the truck did not need. Bring it in, or we will come and get it.

What Power Stroke repair at Moxie actually looks like

  1. We treat a Power Stroke like the working truck it is. That means finding the actual fault with proper diagnostics instead of swapping parts in order of likelihood, because diesel parts are not cheap and guessing gets expensive fast. We work on the 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L, including head gasket and oil cooler work on the 6.0L, all done here in the shop.

  2. We test it the way you drive it. Fuel pressure, boost and injector balance tell us far more with the engine working than sitting in the bay, so we watch them under load wherever we can.

  3. We explain it in plain words. A Power Stroke has a lot of acronyms under the hood, and you should not need to learn them to understand what your truck needs and why.

  4. You approve the work and the price before we start. If something can safely wait until after harvest, we will say so.

Why Ford diesel owners trust Moxie with Power Stroke repair

  • Dealer-level diagnostics

We read the same systems the dealership reads, so most Ford diesel work stays in Hillsboro.

  • An ASE-certified technician

Our technician is ASE certified in engine repair, automatic transmissions and drivetrains, and Moxie pays for ASE testing for the whole team.

  • Warranty in writing

Most repairs carry the NAPA 24/24 nationwide warranty for 24 months or 24,000 miles, and engine and transmission work carries Moxie's own one-year warranty. We tell you which one covers your repair before any work starts.

  • Free pickup and delivery

What wears out a Power Stroke around here
  • Worn or sticking fuel injectors, the parts that spray fuel into each cylinder
  • A turbocharger that is leaking boost or has a sticking vane, which robs power on a long pull with a loaded trailer
  • A clogged EGR cooler or valve, the system that recirculates some exhaust to cut emissions
  • A soot-loaded diesel particulate filter (DPF) that cannot clean itself on short trips around town
  • Fuel pump trouble, which on some later engines can spread metal through the fuel system
  • Coolant and oil cooler problems, which some older Power Stroke engines are known for
How we track down a Power Stroke problem
  1. We read every module on the truck, not just the engine, and note every stored and pending code.
  2. We watch live data while the engine runs and, where we can, under load. Fuel pressure, boost and injector balance tell us far more moving than sitting still.
  3. We test the suspect part directly before we condemn it, so a turbo complaint caused by a cracked boost hose does not turn into a new turbo.
  4. We check the fuel for water and contamination, which matters a great deal on a diesel.
  5. We tell you what we found, what it costs and what can wait, before any work begins.

Power Stroke repair questions we hear every week

Do I have to take my Ford diesel to the dealer?

You do not, and for most repairs an independent shop is the quicker option. Having the work done outside the dealership does not void your warranty as long as it is done properly. If something is covered by a Ford recall or warranty claim, we will tell you so you can use it.

Why is my Power Stroke losing power when I tow?

Loss of power under load usually points to the turbo, a boost leak, a clogged EGR or DPF, or fuel delivery. Several of those cause the same feeling from the driver's seat, which is why we test before replacing anything. Call or text us and describe when it happens, and we can usually narrow it down before you bring it in.

How much does Power Stroke repair cost?

That depends on what failed and which engine you have. A cracked boost hose and a set of injectors are very different jobs. We diagnose first and give you a price before any work starts, and nothing is done until you approve it. For bigger repairs, pay over time with Affirm. Checking your eligibility won't affect your credit score.
