Running Boards & Side Steps in Hillsboro, KS

The short answer

Running boards are steps mounted along the side of a truck or SUV, below the doors, that make getting in and out easier and safer.

On a tall pickup, a lifted truck or anything you climb into with muddy boots, they make a real difference to knees and backs, and to the grandkids you are hoisting in for the school run in Hillsboro. We install them for drivers across Marion, Harvey, McPherson, Chase and Lyon Counties, and we help you choose between fixed boards, tube-style nerf bars and power steps that fold away. Bring it in, or we will come and get it.

What a running board installation at Moxie looks like

  1. We start with brands that hold up on farm and work trucks. We install Westin running boards and nerf bars, AMP Research PowerStep power steps and Dee Zee boards. All three come through our parts suppliers, so we can usually get the right set for your truck in a few days.

  2. We help you pick the style for how you climb in. A flat running board is the easiest to stand on, a nerf bar is a round tube that looks sleeker, and a power step drops down when you open the door and tucks away when you close it, which is a good match for lifted trucks.

  3. We use the holes the truck already has. We bolt the boards to the existing mounting points wherever possible, so there is no drilling into the cab. Power steps are wired to the door circuits, and we test them through every door before the truck goes back to you.

  4. You see the price before we pick up a wrench. You see the parts and the price before any work starts, and nothing is done until you approve it.

  • Lifted and leveled trucks, which put the cab a long way off the ground
  • Muddy boots and icy January mornings, which make a slick door sill risky

  • Road salt and wet winters, which rust out older boards and their brackets
  • Ruts and brush on field drives, which catch on low fixed steps

Running board questions we hear every week

What is the difference between running boards and nerf bars?

Running boards are wide and flat, so they are easy to stand on and good for anyone who needs a steady step. Nerf bars are round tubes with small step pads, and they look sleeker but give you less to stand on. Both mount in the same place under the doors, so it really comes down to looks versus footing.

Are power steps worth it?

Power steps are worth it on a lifted or tall truck, because they drop down lower than a fixed board when a door opens and fold away when it closes, so they do not catch on ruts or brush. They cost more than fixed boards and need wiring, which we handle and test on every door before you drive away.

How long does it take to install running boards?

Most fixed running boards take a couple of hours, because they bolt into holes the truck already has. Power steps take longer since they are wired into the door circuits. We give you a time when you book, and our pickup and delivery can save you the trip. Text us your truck's year and model to get started.
