Back Glass Replacement in Hillsboro, KS

The short answer

A broken back window has to be replaced, not repaired, because back glass is tempered and fails all at once.

A windshield is laminated, so it cracks and holds together. Back glass goes into thousands of blunt little pieces, usually into the back seat, the trunk and every heater vent in the vehicle. Maybe it was a hailstorm in May, or a bale hook that swung the wrong way while you were loading the pickup. We fit the new glass, test the defroster and vacuum up every last piece here in Hillsboro, so bring it in, or we will come and get it.

What back glass replacement at Moxie actually looks like

  1. We vacuum the vehicle out properly. Tempered glass gets absolutely everywhere, under seats, into seatbelt reels and down defroster vents. Finding it for months afterwards is the part people complain about most, so this is most of the job and it is worth doing well.

  2. We fit glass that matches the original. That means the correct defroster grid and, where your vehicle has one, the aerial printed into the glass, because both are part of the glass rather than separate parts.

  3. We test the defroster before the vehicle leaves. A grid that does not make contact looks perfect and does nothing, and you would only find out on the first frosty morning.

  4. We finish the details. If yours has a rear wiper, we refit it and check that it sweeps correctly.

Why Hillsboro trusts Moxie with back glass replacement

  • We vacuum it properly

Tempered glass gets into seatbelt reels and heater vents. Finding it for months afterwards is the usual complaint, and it is avoidable.

  • Defroster tested before you leave

A grid that does not make contact looks perfect and does nothing.

  • We pick your vehicle up

Driving with no rear glass is miserable and, in winter, genuinely unpleasant. We will come and get it.

  • Lifetime leak warranty

If glass we installed ever leaks, we make it right at no charge for as long as you own the vehicle. New damage from rocks and road debris is not covered, but a fresh chip can often be repaired in under an hour.

Back glass replacement questions we hear every week

Can back glass be repaired like a windshield chip?

Sadly, it cannot be. Windshields are laminated, with two layers of glass bonded to a plastic layer in the middle, and that is what lets resin fill a chip. Back glass is tempered, designed to break into blunt pieces rather than shards, and once it is damaged there is nothing left to repair.

Will my defroster still work?

Your defroster will work, as long as the replacement glass carries the correct grid for your vehicle, which is what we fit. The grid is printed onto the glass itself, so it comes as part of the new panel. We connect it and test it before the vehicle goes back to you.

Can I drive it in the meantime?

You can, though we would not enjoy it. You cannot see as well behind you, anything in the back is exposed to weather and to anybody walking past, and loose glass in the cabin is worth avoiding. If you can leave it with us rather than driving it around for a week, do. Text us a photo and we will get the glass ordered.
