Trip & Seasonal Inspections in Hillsboro, KS

The short answer

A trip or seasonal inspection is a careful once-over before a long drive or a hard season.

That way a worn belt, a tired battery or a slow tire leak gets found in our shop instead of on the shoulder three states away. Most breakdowns give some warning if somebody looks at the right time. You know the moment: the first below-zero January morning in Hillsboro, the kids already buckled in, and the battery just clicks. You leave knowing what is in good shape and what needs attention, so bring it in a week or two before you go, or we will come and get it.

What a trip or seasonal inspection at Moxie actually looks like

  1. We go over the parts most likely to leave you stranded. That means the battery and charging system, belts and hoses, tires and tread, brakes, fluids, lights, wipers and the cooling system. We look, we measure where measuring matters, and we note anything that is wearing out before it fails.

  2. We tailor the check to the season. Before a Kansas winter we pay extra attention to the battery, the heater, the antifreeze and your tire tread, because cold mornings find weak batteries fast. Before summer we focus on the cooling system and the air conditioning, since 100-degree days on the highway are hard on both.

  3. Harvest gets its own attention. Pickups and farm trucks around Marion, Harvey, McPherson, Chase and Lyon Counties work long hours on dusty roads in June and July and again in the fall, so we look closely at air filters, cooling, brakes, tires and anything that tows.

  4. Then we give you a plain-English rundown. We tell you what is fine, what should be done before you go and what can wait until you are back, and nothing is repaired until you approve it.

Why Hillsboro trusts Moxie with a trip or seasonal inspection

  • An ASE-certified technician

Our technician is ASE certified in engine repair, automatic transmissions and drivetrains, and Moxie pays for ASE testing for the whole team.

  • Warranty in writing

Most repairs carry the NAPA 24/24 nationwide warranty for 24 months or 24,000 miles, and engine and transmission work carries Moxie's own one-year warranty. We tell you which one covers your repair before any work starts.

  • Dealer-level diagnostics

If a warning light is on or something is stored in the vehicle's computer, we can read it before you leave town.

Trip and seasonal inspection questions we hear every week

How far ahead of my trip should I bring the vehicle in?

About a week or two ahead is ideal. That leaves time to order a part if we find something that needs replacing, without anyone rushing to beat your departure date. If your trip is sooner than that, text or call anyway, and we will do our best to fit you in before you leave.

Is this the same as my regular maintenance?

It overlaps, but the focus is different. Scheduled maintenance follows your vehicle's mileage, while a trip or seasonal inspection looks at what the next few weeks or months will ask of it. If an oil change or other service is due soon, we can do both in the same visit so you only make one trip to the shop.

Can you check a farm truck or a vehicle that tows?

We are happy to, and it is a smart idea before harvest or a trip with a trailer. We check the brakes, tires, cooling system and transmission fluid with the extra load in mind, and we look over the hitch and trailer wiring too, so the whole rig is ready for the work ahead.
