Diesel Injector Repair in Hillsboro, KS
The short answer
If your diesel is smoking, idling rough, starting hard or losing power, a worn or leaking fuel injector is one of the most likely reasons, and it is worth testing before it damages the engine.
Injectors are the small precision nozzles that spray fuel into each cylinder, and it can take just one tank of fuel with water in it, maybe from a farm tank during harvest, to start the trouble. We test every injector on your truck here in Hillsboro before we recommend replacing any, so bring it in, or we will come and get it.

We test before we replace. A rough idle might be one injector, a set of them or something else entirely, and diesel injectors are not a part you want to buy on a hunch.
We tell you honestly whether the others are close behind. On a high-mileage truck, a full set can cost less in the long run than paying for the same labor twice, but the choice is always yours. We install remanufactured injectors as standard, and we code and program them here in the shop on Power Stroke, Cummins and Duramax engines.
We look for the reason it failed. If water or a failing pump damaged the injector, a new one will fail the same way unless that gets fixed too.
We check the oil while we are at it. If a leaking injector has thinned it with fuel, we will tell you, because thin oil protects the engine poorly.

What wears out diesel injectors around here
- Normal wear after a lot of miles, which changes how evenly the fuel sprays
- Water in the fuel, from condensation in a tank or a bad fill, which is hard on the tight fit inside an injector
- Dirt getting past a fuel filter that was overdue, especially on dusty field and gravel work
- Metal from a failing high-pressure fuel pump reaching the injectors
- Internal leaks that send fuel back to the tank or into the oil
How we test diesel injectors
- We read the engine computer's injector balance data, which shows which cylinders are being given more or less fuel to keep the engine smooth.
- We run cylinder contribution tests, which show whether each cylinder is pulling its share.
- We measure return flow, the fuel that leaks back from each injector, to spot one leaking internally.
- We check fuel pressure and the fuel itself, because a pump or water problem can look like an injector problem.
- We tell you exactly which injectors failed and what the repair costs before any work starts.
What we check along with the injectors
- Every injector, tested one cylinder at a time
- Fuel pressure and the high-pressure fuel pump
- Fuel filters and the water separator
- The fuel for water, dirt and metal
- The engine oil for fuel contamination
What the repair usually is
- Replacing the failed injectors, or a full set where the others are at the same wear point
- Programming the new injectors to the engine computer where the engine requires it
- Replacing fuel filters and draining water from the system
- Cleaning out the fuel system after contamination
- An oil change where fuel has thinned the oil

Diesel injector repair questions we hear every week
Can I keep driving on a bad diesel injector?
You can usually drive a short distance, but it is not a good idea for long. A leaking injector can wash oil off the cylinder wall, thin the engine oil with fuel or, in the worst case, damage a piston. If it is smoking heavily or knocking, park it and call or text us about pickup instead of pushing your luck.
Do I need to replace all my injectors at once?
Not always, and we will not insist on it. If one injector has failed early and the rest test well, replacing that one makes sense. On a high-mileage engine where the rest are at the same wear point, a full set can save a second round of labor later. We show you the test results and let you decide.
How much does diesel injector replacement cost?
The cost depends on the engine, how many injectors need replacing and how much labor it takes to reach them, which varies a lot between trucks. We test first and give you a firm price before any work starts. Pay over time with Affirm. Checking your eligibility won't affect your credit score.
