Flat Tire in Hillsboro, KS
The short answer
If a tire is flat, stop driving on it, because even a short distance on a flat can ruin a tire that could otherwise have been repaired.
It always picks its moment: you walk out after church on a cold Sunday, or finish a long day in the field, and one corner of the pickup is sitting right down on the rim. Put the spare on if you can do it safely, or call us and we will help you work out the best way to get it here. Once it is on the spare, bring it in, or we will come and get it.

Text us which onesHow we handle a flat tire at Moxie
We look inside the tire, not just at the hole. A tire that was driven flat can look fine from the outside while the inner wall is shredded, and patching that is a gamble we will not take with your family.
We repair it when the damage allows it. A small puncture in the tread gets a proper plug and patch fitted from the inside, and the tire is balanced again before it goes back on.
We replace it when it cannot be saved. Sidewall damage, a big cut or a tire ruined by being driven flat all mean a new tire, and we will show you the damage so you can see why.
Then we put your spare back where it lives, aired up and ready for the next time.

Can I keep driving?
No, do not drive on a flat tire.
Driving on a flat, even slowly and even for a block, crushes the inside of the tire, can bend the wheel, and takes steering and braking grip away from you. Pull over somewhere safe, put the spare on if you can do it safely, or call us and we will talk through the options. If your vehicle has run-flat tires, stay within the distance and speed in your owner's manual and come straight to us.
Stop driving and call us if
- A tire goes flat while you are driving, especially at highway speed
- You are on the shoulder of a busy road and cannot change the tire safely
- You see a cut, a bulge or cords on the side of any tire
- The wheel itself looks bent or cracked

What flattens tires around here
- Nails, screws and scrap metal picked up around construction sites and farm yards
- Sharp rocks on gravel and county roads
- Potholes and curbs, which can pinch the tire against the wheel and cut it from the inside
- A slow leak nobody caught, until it finally let go overnight
- Old, cracked valve stems that give up all at once
- Tires that have aged out, with rubber dried and cracked by the Kansas sun
How we diagnose a flat tire in Hillsboro
- We look at the tread for the puncture and at the sidewall for cuts and bulges.
- We take the tire off the wheel and inspect the inside, since damage from driving flat often only shows there.
- We check the valve stem, the tire pressure sensor and the edge of the wheel for leaks and bends.
- We check the spare you arrived on, so it is ready for next time.
- Then we tell you whether the tire can be repaired or has to be replaced, and why.

Flat tire questions we hear every week
Can I drive on my flat just to get it to you?
Please do not. Even a short drive on a flat tire can damage it beyond repair and bend the wheel, and it makes the vehicle harder to steer and stop. Put the spare on, or call us and we will help you work out a safe way to get it here.
Can a flat tire always be fixed?
It cannot always be fixed. A small hole in the tread usually can, but a puncture in the sidewall or the shoulder, a large cut, or damage from being driven flat means the tire has to be replaced. Text us a photo of the damage and we will give you an honest first opinion.
Do I have to replace two tires if one is ruined?
You do not always need more than one. If the others are fairly new, one new tire is fine on many vehicles. On some all-wheel-drive vehicles, though, a big difference in tread between tires can strain the drivetrain, so we check your tread depth and what your vehicle needs before recommending anything.
