Free, once a month
Moxie Know-How Nights
There is no such thing as a stupid question here.
The second Thursday of every month, six until half past seven, we put a vehicle up on the lift, open the doors, and show you what is actually under there. It is free, nothing is for sale, and you do not need to bring anything but yourself.
Call or text (620) 416-0008. Describe the noise. We'll do the rest.
We answer texts the same day we get them.
Sign up by texting the shop line. Space is limited. Text the shop at (620) 416-0008 with your name and how many are coming.
Coming up
Always the second Thursday, so it lands between the 8th and the 14th every month. Easy to remember and easy to plan around.

We keep running through harvest, but we know June, July, September and October take a lot of you out of circulation. No hard feelings if the room is thin.
What we cover
One thing per evening, done properly, with a real vehicle in front of us rather than a slideshow. The rotation so far:
Reading your dashboard
Every warning light, what it is actually telling you, and which ones mean stop now.
Checking your own fluids and tires
Oil, coolant, tread depth and pressure. Five minutes a month that prevents most roadside breakdowns.
What a noise is telling you
Grinding, clunking, humming and whining, and what each one usually points at.
Getting ready for a Kansas winter
Battery, coolant mix, tread and glass, and why the first hard freeze breaks so many vehicles.
Buying a used vehicle without getting burned
What to look at, what to walk away from, and what a pre-purchase inspection actually finds.
Reading a repair estimate
What the lines mean, which questions to ask, and how to tell a fair quote from a vague one.
Why we do this
A lot of people have been made to feel small in a repair shop. Told what needs doing with no way to judge whether it was true, and left nodding along at a counter rather than asking the question they actually had.
We think that is a rotten way to run a business, and it is also bad at fixing cars. The more you understand about your vehicle, the better the decisions you get to make about it, and the better the conversation we get to have when something does go wrong.
So nothing is for sale on the night and nobody will ask for your phone number. If you leave knowing more than you came in with and never bring us a vehicle, that is a perfectly good outcome.
Common questions
Do I need to know anything about cars?
Not a thing, and most people who come do not. These evenings are built for the person who can drive perfectly well and has never been shown what is underneath. If you already know your way around an engine you will probably find it slow going.
What time does it start?
Six o’clock, finishing by half past seven. Come straight from work if that is easier — you will not be underdressed, and there is nowhere in this building that minds a bit of dirt.
Can I bring my kids?
Please do, particularly if one of them is about to start driving. Knowing how to check a tire and what a temperature warning means is a genuinely useful thing to send someone out into the world with.
We have the moxie to get the job done
