Hitches & Towing in Hillsboro, KS

The short answer

The right hitch is the one rated for both your truck and the heaviest trailer you plan to pull.

Moxie installs them in Hillsboro, including B&W Hitches, with the trailer lights and brakes wired to work the first time you hook up. Think of a loaded stock trailer headed to the sale barn, or the camper pointed out of town on a Friday afternoon, and the trailer lights staying dark the moment you plug in. Whether it is a boat, a livestock trailer or a weekend camper, we make sure the hitch is rated for the job and fitted properly. Bring the truck in, or we will come and get it.

What hitch installation at Moxie actually looks like

  1. We start with what you plan to pull. Every truck has a towing limit set by the manufacturer, and every hitch has its own rating. The setup is only as strong as the weaker of the two, so we match the hitch to both before anything is ordered.

  2. We fit hitches built for Kansas work. We install B&W gooseneck and fifth-wheel hitches, which are built in Kansas and made for heavy farm and livestock trailers, and we fit the mounting rails under the bed so the load goes into the frame where it belongs. For bumper towing we fit CURT receiver hitches.

  3. We tighten every bolt to spec, not to feel. Each one is set to the specified torque, which is the measured tightness a bolt is meant to hold, using the mounting points the truck was built with. A hitch that is only nearly tight works loose over gravel roads.

  4. We finish with the wiring and test it. A new hitch is not much use if the trailer lights are dark or the trailer brakes do nothing, so we pair it with a brake controller from Tekonsha, CURT or REDARC where you need one, and check everything before the truck goes back to you. You see the parts and the price before any work starts.

Hitch installation questions we hear every week

What size hitch do I need for my truck?

That depends on the heaviest trailer you plan to pull and on what your truck is rated to tow. Hitches are sold in classes by weight, and the right one covers your trailer without going past your truck's own limit. Call or text us with the truck and the trailer, and we will tell you which setup fits both.

Should I get a gooseneck or a bumper-pull hitch?

It really comes down to the trailer. Most livestock, flatbed and large equipment trailers use a gooseneck, which sits in the bed over the rear axle and handles heavy loads more steadily. Utility trailers, boats and smaller campers usually use a receiver hitch at the bumper. We are happy to talk it through with you before you buy.

How much does hitch installation cost?

The price depends on the type of hitch, your truck, and whether it needs wiring or a brake controller at the same time. A receiver hitch is a much smaller job than a bed-mounted gooseneck. Call or text us with your truck's year and model, and we will give you a price before any work starts.
