Ranch Hand Bumpers in Hillsboro, KS

The short answer

A Ranch Hand bumper is a heavy steel replacement for a pickup's factory bumper, built to protect the front of the truck from deer, brush, cattle and the odd fence post.

Moxie carries and installs them in Hillsboro. Picture a county road outside Marion at dusk in November, when a deer jumps out of the ditch and a plastic factory bumper turns into a radiator repair and a week without your truck. We fit the bumper properly and make sure the sensors and cameras on a newer truck still work afterward, so bring it in, or we will come and get it.

What a Ranch Hand bumper installation at Moxie looks like

  1. We start with the right bumper, not just the first one on the shelf. Ranch Hand is our go-to for heavy-duty steel bumpers and grille guards, built in Texas for ranch and farm work. We also install Westin, Road Armor and Fab Fours, so if you want a lighter guard, a modular bumper or a different look, we can get that too.

  2. We confirm the fit before anything is ordered. Year, cab and trim can all change what fits, and a bumper built for the wrong model does not line up.

  3. We bolt it on like it has to stop a deer, because it might. We remove the factory bumper and mount the Ranch Hand bumper to the frame, then tighten every bolt to the specified torque, which is the measured tightness each bolt is meant to hold. A steel bumper is only as strong as the bolts holding it on.

  4. We make sure the electronics come along for the ride. Many newer trucks have parking sensors, a front camera or a radar unit behind the grille for adaptive cruise and automatic braking, which are part of ADAS, the driver-assistance systems. We move them to the new bumper where the design allows, rewire the fog lights and turn signals, and check it all works before the truck goes back to you. You see the parts and the price before any work starts, and nothing is done until you approve it.

  • Deer on county roads at dawn and dusk, especially in the fall
  • Brush, fence posts and pasture gates on farm and ranch work
  • Livestock pushing on the front of the truck in a pen
  • Gravel kicked up on section roads, which chips and cracks plastic
  • Cold Kansas winters, which make plastic brittle and quicker to crack

  • Fitment for your truck's year, cab and trim
  • Frame mounting points, checked for rust or earlier damage
  • Parking sensors, front camera and radar, where fitted
  • Fog lights, turn signals and any wiring moved to the new bumper
  • Clearance for the tow hooks, winch and license plate

Ranch Hand bumper questions we hear every week

Will a Ranch Hand bumper work with my truck's parking sensors?

On many trucks it will, but it depends on the bumper design and your truck. Some bumpers have mounting spots for the factory sensors and others do not. We check before we order, tell you what will and will not carry over, and test everything once the bumper is on so there are no surprises in the grocery store parking lot.

Does a steel bumper affect my truck's front camera or automatic braking?

It can, and that is exactly why we check. Trucks with a radar or camera behind the grille rely on that sensor having a clear view ahead. After the bumper goes on, we confirm the system still works, and where the vehicle calls for it we recalibrate the sensor so it points where it should.

How much does it cost to install a Ranch Hand bumper?

The total depends on the bumper you choose, your truck, and how many sensors and lights have to be moved across. A truck with no front sensors is a simpler job than one with a radar and a camera. Call or text us your truck's year and model, and we will price the bumper and the installation before any work starts.
