Duramax Repair in Hillsboro, KS
The short answer
Duramax repair in Hillsboro starts with finding the real cause, whether your heavy-duty Silverado or Sierra has gone into reduced power, started smoking or begun starting hard.
Nothing gets replaced until we know what failed. The Duramax is a strong engine, but its injectors, high-pressure fuel pump and emissions parts do wear, and when one fails it can take a working truck off the road right when you need it, like the middle of wheat harvest with a trailer hooked up. We explain it plainly and price it before we start, so bring it in, or we will come and get it.

We find the real fault first. On a Duramax, a fuel pressure complaint can come from a filter, a pump or an injector, and the prices of those are miles apart. We work on every Duramax generation, from the LB7, LBZ and LMM to the LML and L5P, and when a fuel pump fails and sends metal through the system, we do the full clean-out here in the shop.
We check the fuel and the oil early. Fuel in the oil or metal in the fuel changes the whole repair, and it is better to know that on day one.
We keep it plain. You will hear what failed and why it matters in words that make sense, not a list of acronyms.
You approve the work and the price before we start. We will tell you honestly what can wait and what cannot.

What wears out a Duramax around here
- Worn or leaking fuel injectors, which some earlier Duramax engines are known for
- A failing high-pressure fuel pump, which on some later engines can send metal through the fuel system
- A turbocharger that is sticking or leaking boost, usually noticed first while towing
- A clogged EGR valve or cooler
- A diesel particulate filter (DPF) loaded with soot from short trips and long idles
- A DEF system fault, such as a heater that quit in the cold or a bad DEF quality sensor
How we track down a Duramax problem
- We scan every module and record stored, pending and history codes.
- We watch live fuel pressure, injector balance and boost while the engine runs, and under load where we can.
- We check the fuel and the oil, since fuel in the oil or metal in the fuel changes the whole repair.
- We test the suspect part directly instead of replacing the likeliest one and hoping.
- We explain what we found and what it costs before any work begins.

Duramax repair questions we hear every week
Why did my Duramax go into reduced power mode?
Reduced power is the truck protecting itself after its computer spots a problem. Common triggers are a clogged DPF, a DEF system fault, a boost problem or low fuel pressure. The truck will usually still get you to a shop slowly, but get it checked soon, because the cause can get worse and more expensive. Text us the message on the dash and we will tell you what it usually means.
Is it bad if my Duramax oil level keeps going up?
It is, because a rising oil level usually means fuel is getting into the oil. Diesel thins the oil, and thin oil protects the engine poorly. It can come from a leaking injector or from repeated cleaning cycles that get cut short on short trips. Do not keep ignoring it, and call us so we can find the source.
How much does Duramax repair cost?
It depends on what failed, and on whether anything else was damaged along with it. A fuel pump that sheds metal, for example, affects more than the pump. We diagnose first and price the job before any work starts. For bigger repairs, pay over time with Affirm. Checking your eligibility won't affect your credit score.
